Core Wellness Values
Presbyterian Homes & Services promotes the balance of these Core Wellness Values for each person.
Physical wellness: care of the body and nurturing our bodies to achieve optimal physical function. Examples: regular exercise, nutrition, routine medical awareness, screenings and care, appropriate touch, and the use of laughter.
Intellectual wellness: Development and stimulation of cognitive abilities. Examples: encouraging questions and discussions, expression of creativity and art, educational ministries, creative problem solving, expression of ideas.
Social wellness: Nurturing of interpersonal relationships. Examples: developing friendships, community building, celebration of relationships and milestones, sharing life stories with family, maintaining connectedness.
Vocational wellness: Seeking fulfillment and opportunity for growth and satisfaction in life's vocation. Examples: using God-given gifts throughout life, using interpersonal communication and management skills, and life-long learning/continuing education, crafts, daily use of life skills such as homemaking and self-care.
Spiritual wellness: Living in a relationship with God through inward, outward, and corporate disciplines. Examples: writing faith stories, meditative music, devotional materials, living gracefully, forgiving and being forgiven, prayer, confession, absolution, sacraments, servanthood events.
Emotional wellness: Awareness of our feelings, nurturing our positive feelings and managing our negative feelings in healthy ways. Examples: communication skills, stress management, developing and enhancing self-esteem, dealing with grief, loss and loneliness, relaxation, support groups
